Activity profile: Textile Research Center for final AAL applications
Our organisation type is:: Research institution
We are active in the following Technologies: Communication, Energy generation, Human-machine-interface, New materials, Sensors & actuators, Smart home
Action type: Research
Applications: Health & wellness, Home care, Mobility, Social interaction, Hobbies
AITEX is a non-profit making association established in 1985, composed by textile and related companies, whose main objective is to improve the textile industry competitiveness, promoting modernization activities, new technologies introduction and improvement of the company and products quality.
AITEX acts on behalf of the textile and clothing industries, having a strong industrial representation.more than 900 associated companies and 2.000 clients trust on AITEX in order to change their manufacturing processes, to adopt new technologies, new software, toolkits and so on.
AITEX works in several fields of research and activities to support the textile and clothing sector. Among the many different tasks that the Institute fosters, we can point out the standardization and quality, RTD Projects (National and European projects), Training and Lab Services for enterprises (including chemical, physical, fire behaviour, personal protective, comfort, 48-hours lab, water, microbiology, geotextiles and geosynthetics, automotive, medical and hygienic, filtration and ballistics)
Our RTD personnel is structured in 5 research groups; Nanotechnologies, ,Biotechnology and composites, Intelligent Textiles, ICT and Finishings on Technical Textiles and Clothing Technology.
We would like to take part in an AAL project integrating sensors into textiles in order to provide a "wearable" system, more confortable to be used by aged people. The research group in charge will be SMART TEXTILES. Some of their expertise:
• SEAT: Smart Technologies For Stress Free Air Travel. STREP. Contract No: AST5-CT-2006-030958 (2006-2009). AITEX is the leader of developing a smart seat for airplanes.
• PERSONA: Perceptive Spaces Promoting Independent Aging. Integrated Project (045459), 2007 - 2010, Sixth Framework Programme. The objective is to develop, prototype, evaluate and demonstrate Ambient Assisted Services integrated across three vital spaces where elderly people may live with the greatest possible independence and freedom: Ambient Living-Village, Ambient Living-Home and Ambient Living-Neighbourhood. The AITEX role is to lead the integration of sensors and actuators into intelligent textiles (both for home-textiles and garments).
- Research and development of sunlight capturing textiles by means of modification and the insertion of fibre optics. IMPIVA (Regional Government)
- Research and development of a fabric that acts as a thermal battery for the accumulation of energy obtained for use in different applications. Ministry of Science and Innovation
- Research and development of a textile volume sensor with applications in the monitoring of sleep apnoea. Ministry of Industry, Tourism and commerce.
- Research and development of breathable intelligent textiles using finishings with shape memory. Financed by IMPIVA, regional government.
- Research and development of new textiles for high risk and extreme condition applications. Financed by IMPIVA Regional Government.
- R&D demonstration prototypes for intelligent textile articles for the distance hospitalisation unit (DHU). IMPIVA Regional government.
