T3LAB Consortium is a no-profit organization supported by Unindustria Bologna (Industrial Association of the Province of Bologna) and the University of Bologna. T3LAB's mission is to develop applied research and technology transfer activities for the territory's enterprises in the field of electronics, automation and ICT. T3LAB operates activating research groups made of young researchers, lead by university tutors, which work on research themes of general interest for the Consortium's partners and on specific orientations ordered by single enterprises. T3LAB's setting, facilitates a virtuous contamination between academic knowledge and business strategies, growing up young technicians who will help the enterprises to implement the innovation processes needed to be competitive.
T3LAB has been operating for four years in the Ambient Assisted Living field with the CASATTENTA project. Therefore, T3LAB suggests itself as a partner in AAL 2010 Projects to make the expertise developed at disposal of an international research group and widen its solid experience on this topic.
CASATTENTA project
The aim of Casattenta project is to develop an ambient intelligence application, specifically addressed to elderly people, building a wireless network that integrates environmental sensors with biomedical sensors, in order to monitor critical situations. Moreover, the system is aimed at providing communication between elderly people and the outside world (remote health & care center, family, friends, doctors).
Casattenta is a single platform for ambient intelligence that integrates several technologies.
First of all, it uses the ZigBee wireless network protocol to enable the communication between intelligent wireless nodes.
Each node is composed of a microprocessor, a radio transceiver and several sensors. Among them, there are environmental sensors (temperature, light, humidity, etc..), inertial sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc..) and biomedical sensors.
The wireless network communicates with a digital TV set top box. So, the user can interact with Casattenta through a simple remote control. The set top box is also the interface of the system with the Internet.
